Motors TV Round 2 Llandow Sunday 18th February 2007

Starting the morning with a brief presentation of prizes, Mike received a small plaque for leading the championship and the imagery for being the TKM Extreme leader. Very few of the top Super 1 seeds were missing, so this was a good marker for Super 1 being held at the circuit in two weeks. The practice again showed that Lyell was the driver to beat on his JKH, but the TEC-MEC was holding up well on only its second outing.

It was very quick in the wet and on the pace in the damp and Sunday would be a day for slicks, so the outcome would be very interesting. Luke Caudle was in the frame as his Gillard seemed to be working better in the dry, but the top three in times qualifying were Lyell, Bell and Mike Comber at just 1/100th off the pace. The top 20 qualified within a second of each other such was the competition. Mike was still in the lead, but needed to beat Bell and Lyell to stay there and make sure that others such as Napier, Tucker and Caudle didn't get too much of an advantage.

I believe the final was shortened because of failing light, so Mike had to get through 20+ drivers withing 10 laps. The TV report will show that he finished 6th, but it could easily have been another 4th with another lap or so. No times were available, but lap times were well down into the low 46's on his Alphano and that was cutting through traffic. With no report sheets, I believe Luke won, so that will put him near the front of the championship. Martyn beat Mike by 3 places, so I think they are joint leaders, with Bell, Tucker and Napier all in the top 6. George Lovell made it into the top 5, but being 17th after Round 1 gave him the advantage of starting near the front in about 7th.

Sadly Mikes running mate Terry Langley had a bad weekend, getting knocked off at the start of Round 1 and then the same happened in Round 2, but this time with serious and expensive chassis damage to the CRG, which was also having its second outing.

Hope fully Terry will get some more practice in at Whilton this weekend.

To still be on top is excellent for Mike, who will now look forward to Super 1 with more enthusiasm and a high expectation.
